When Phil and Steve purchased the plane in 2011 from David Lane, the plane had not flown in several years.  David Lane did a great job keeping 313 clean and in running condition.  When he operated the plane, he was meticulous with maintenance and safety which made our restoration of the plane much easier.

When 313 arrived in Santa Rosa, we had several discussions on how much in depth we wanted to fix her up.  When hangar space became available, we knew we could do a much more in depth job with the plane.  The restoration evolved and the more we took apart, the more we found that needed cleaning up and the farther we went.  It always takes more time and money than originally thought !!

Below you will find a library of photos showing some of the major work done to the plane.  It can't all be listed here, but you will get the feel of how in depth we went.

The first thing we did was to remove both carburetors, both engine driven fuel pumps and all the fuel hoses.  The carburetors and pumps were sent out for overhaul and all new hoses were installed.

All the control surfaces and horizontal stabilizers were removed for recovering and some corrosion repair.  After we found some corrosion in the vertical stab, it was removed from the plane as well.  All repairs and recovering was accomplished as per the structural repair manual and controls were recovered with the Poly Fiber process.

This is the forward bulkhead in the gunners compartment.  You can see a lot of the damage from the flak burst.  We decided to leave the repairs as the USAF did as a reminder.

The left elevator trim tab was corroded badly.  We replaced it with a NOS tab that was still covered from 1953.  We put fresh Poly Fiber on it.
